From BPRE to PCPDM

The Philippine Dept. of Agriculture -Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension (DA-BPRE) will soon be transformed into Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PCPDM) as the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ordered the Bureau to implement its approved rationalized structure effective January 2010.

One of the dramatic change in the mandate of this organization is the inclusion of agri-mechanization research. And in line with the government's streamlining (the bureaucracy) program, manpower compliment of BPRE shall be trimmed down by around 20%, particularly those items or positions which were found redundant. With the new structure, over 30 positions will be abolished with the government annual budget for personal services reduced by over P8 million annually. Affected rationalized employees and officers shall either retire (with incentives), or opt to stay in the government service in other agencies. Implementing details of this Organizational development program is now being finalized. (30)
