The new rationalized postharvest bureau of the Philippine Department of Agriculture includes a new important commodity scope for modernizing our agriculture - the mechanization. It is not circulated yet the new provision, but basing on previous deliberations (which I'd been part of), mechanization here refers not only on mechanization R & D, but on mechanizing the industry itself. As what we then put it, to modernize is to mechanize, thus the new BPRE (which shall be known as PCPDM or Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization) is expected to face a great challenge in the light of reduced manpower (where rationalized staff were mostly the key officers).
I'd been with BPRE for 26 years, and somehow, I have known well the quality of our people. Many of our junior staff have clear potentials for leadership, and only time will tell if the new manpower strength can meet the DA and agri-sector's expectations. Organizational culture should be enriched to preserve BPRE's efficiency and effectiveness.
Regardless of the foregoing, I still believe that this organization should be here to stay, and there is indeed a good reason to be optimistic. (JSF blogs)
sir, i'm presently a business development and policy planning consultant at the department of agrarian reform. for some time now, i've been wanting to see how mechanization can be jumpstarted in agriculture. i inherited some 3 hectares of coconut land in marinduque and am active in an association of marinduqueños in the metro manila area. these 2 involvements of mine have forced me to wonder what can be done to improve farm output in coconut, for which productivity is very low. is this sector condemned to manual labor forever? or is there some way mechanization can be introduced here?
ReplyDeleteanother concern of mine is that i and a couple of friends are interested in exploring business opportunities in manufacturing mechanized farm implements. would you have some idea about this sector? how large is it? what kind of returns are acceptable? is there really manufacturing going on, or are industry players mere importers and/or distributors? what are the business prospects here (ROIs, ROCs, etc.)? any funding available? incentives? etc.
i hope you will be able to help me out.
