Brgy. Anilao, Bongabong Or. Mindoro - The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHMech) granted a flat-bed dryer to ANORCU farmers cooperative in this barangay, which this blogger got an opportunity to visit during holiweek break.
As this is a summer season, drying operation is not that necessary.
However, the machine is still being utilized for storing copra product. According to a laborer of Mr. Lito Atienza, a coop officer, they are not utilizing it for copra drying, only for temporary storing.
The distribution of mechanical grain dryer is one of the banner program under Sec. Arthur Yap's administration, in support to Clustering strategy for increasing rice productivity. The project is funded under ACEP (Agriculture Competitive Enhancement Program), which aim, among others, is to make local rice farming globally competitive.
PHMech (formerly Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension, BPRE) is the new name of the Bureau as promulgated in Exec. Order 366, otherwise known as Government Organizations Rationalization (Streamlining) program. (JSF Blogs)
