Travelling To Or. Mindoro Much Easier Now

Oriental Mindoro is one of the two island provinces of Mindoro. Decades back, travelling (to this island)from mainland Luzon was a tedious and cumbersome. From Manila, the commuter has to hurdle the traffic jam as you cross several towns of Laguna and Batangas before reaching the Batangas pier.

But now, with those Expressways (SLEX and STAR), those travelling difficulties are gone. The Batangas-Calapan pier can be traversed in 45 minutes via fastcrafts such as Supercat and Montenegro Lines. If the traveller so decide to bring his car to Mindoro, so-called roll-on, roll-off ships are available, which cross the ocean in 2-hour sailing time.

Batangas and Calapan piers are both modernized. Gone are the days when one has to walk a long way from the bus stop to the boat, amidst persistent vendors and cargadores, with whom you sometimes put a fight as they tried to force the passengers to avail of their services (which oftenly they over-charged). But now, pier people are more civil and disciplined, and more courteous to the commuting public.

Thus, travelling to Or. Mindoro is now an enjoyable trip, be it air, water and land trip, as we can see in some photos during my recent trip with my family and the Arellano family of Talavera, Nueva Ecija. (JSF Blogs)
