Tracing This Blogger's Roots in Oriental Mindoro : Part I, JUAN SANTIAGO Family Homecoming
Juan Santiago is the father of my mom Eufemia. He was one of the ten children of Pedro. He was married to Felipa Union with whom he has 7 children, one of them my mom. Others are Pedro II,(followed by my mom), Francisco, Geronimo, Edilberto, Delia and Sergio. Todate, only Delia and Sergio are alive.
On April 30, 2010, siblings of 7 children of Juan and Felipa called for a homecoming, the 3rd since it was started several years ago. The family get-together was supposed to be annual activity, but due to some unforeseen events, some schedules were not materialized. I remember, this year's reunion was supposed to be that week when one of my brother-in-law (Amado Vallejos, husband of my sister Miriam)died. Family reunion should be a time to rejoice and celebrate, thus when trying times like those come, the clan postpone it to a more appropriate dates.
This year's reunion was organized by Masaguisi folks led by Manong Sam (my only brother, of 11 siblings). It was held at the grounds of Masaguisi Elementary School, our house being locate at the boundary gate of this school. Each of the family of the 7 children were represented in this homecoming. They are color-coded such as blue shirt for Pedro family, yellow for Eufemia's, Red for Delia's and so on. Some of the photos taken during that reunion were hereby posted.
Homecoming activities include greetings and introduction per family, lunch fellowship, games, dances and that popular videoke singing. There was also a session for the boys (beer-drinking) and merry-making (dancing) typical of Filipino celebrations. The activity started at 9 AM and ended at the wee hour of the night with some folks singing in videoke.
This is Part I of my tracing my roots in Or. Mindoro. I will post shortly the Part II, which is the outcome of Pedro Santiago, my great grandfather in the mother side. (JSF Blogs)
